I never string a badminton racket without these any more. I use only one, at the head end, and the difference made to the stress distribution is patently obvious. At less than $10 there is just no excuse not to invest (and it is an investment) in these clever tools.
(Depending on your machine, you may have to remove the existing rubber pad from your billiard(s) otherwise the top and/or bottom crosses will press up against them when stringing, but these spreaders remove the need for such pads anyway.)
